Your import checklist0 of 7 completed
  1. Run a history report (carVertical) and a stolen-vehicle check. Match the VIN on the car with the registration papers and the CoC. Check paint thickness and the OBD scan at the viewing.

  2. Ask what invoice you'll get: private sale, margin-scheme invoice, or invoice with VAT. Ask for the CoC (Certificate of Conformity). Without it, homologation in Slovenia costs more and takes longer.

  3. Sales contract or invoice, registration certificate Part I + Part II (or your country's equivalent), CoC, service book, all keys, proof of payment. Make sure the seller has deregistered the car, or knows you will.

  4. Confirm export registration and plate validity with the registration authority before collecting the vehicle. Obtain insurance accepted in every transit country; an insurance document alone does not establish plate recognition.

  5. Bring the car with Part I + II, CoC, the invoice/contract and your ID. You get the 'potrdilo o skladnosti za posamično odobreno vozilo'.

  6. Attach Part I + II, the invoice, proof of payment and the homologation certificate. FURS sends the decision in ~2 working days. Pay it, and the next day FURS records the 'potrdilo o plačilu DMV'.

  7. Bring Part I + II (the office keeps them), proof of DMV payment, a valid inspection and insurance. You leave with plates and the prometno dovoljenje.
